So here I am again with more pics!
One of my awesome buddies, Damien (Damo) came to Singapore for about 2 days (as a stopover before he went to Sri Lanka for his well-earned and well-deserved holidays), and we did have an awesome time hanging out. For 2 whole days! It was just awesome.
On the day he arrived, I had lunch at a German bar, which served awesome chicken schnitzel and mixed veggie salad. And of course, peppermint tea!
The next day we went to Sentosa and Marina Bay Sands (MBS), and we took the train to both destinations. And that was where I came out with this new idea:
Here - Damo's attempting to take a picture of the MRT carriage while I take a picture through his camera. :) I did that a few more times at MBS too...
When we reached Sentosa, we bought some cold drinks, then walked around the Dragon Trail for a short while before heading off to the beach.
View of the monorail which we took to Sentosa.
While walking along the beach, we saw this kitten resting in the sand. I think he was a stray (or got separated from his mum). He was very photogenic though.
We also had some cold juice at the beach bar.
We then walked along the beach, took pictures etc...
And headed to the Underwater World, where there was a snake charmer at the entrance. I remembered seeing him way back in 2008 when I went to Sentosa with my classmates. And apparently he's still there! $6 for holding his prized snakes though. I bailed out, of course, but took pictures of his snakes.
Underwater World - I've not been there for ages!! I think the last time I went was in 1997 or 1998 when I was still a kid. The place has definitely changed drastically - for the better of course, and now they even included dolphin/seal shows into the entrance fee.
Horseshoe crabs in one of the exhibits. They typically live in shallow waters, and are considered living fossils.
There was also a diver in one of the larger tanks. And there were LOTS of people crowding around the tank. Somehow I managed to get to the front.
Aquarium that was supposed to resemble a coral reef.
And one of the smaller aquariums had these amazing pipefish! They moved like seaweed and ate debris from the water, and didn't seem to leave the sand they were anchored in.
This was a tank where you could stick your fingers through the slot and these adorable orange fishies would come up and kiss your fingers. They were super cute!!
Live crab in his tank, happily sitting and allowing me to take a picture of him and the crustacean model in the background.
And not too far away, there were these MASSIVE crustaceans. They were extremely wide and moved slowly, but they had pretty good mobility in water. Even with massive, heavy shells, the water supports their weight and allows them to grow bigger. Hence their sizes.
There were also some unusual crustaceans like the giant deep sea isopod. Ok this one here is not so giant...
We also walked through a glass tunnel, where we could see marine life swimming all around and above us. And if we got lazy, we just stepped onto the travellator. This was also extremely packed, and every now and then we had to prevent ourselves from falling off the travellator.
Jellyfish aquariums. There were 2 types - this one here (with adorable juveniles)...
And moon jellies, which were typically transparent (to light blue), and seemed to change colours under the influence of different lights...
Watched the dolphin/seal show shortly after, and they were highly entertaining! Not to mention friendly, cooperative and adorable.
And of course, we had hunger satisfactions at Food Republic before heading to MBS.
Went up to the skypark of MBS and watched the sunset as well. Took lots and lots of pictures there, including pictures of the Infinity Pool. It's been a while since I went to the MBS hotel. Prior to that I actually went to the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands to explore a little.
The famous Singapore Flyer, which was beautifully lighted up and the lights even changed colour every now and then! Would like to go on it someday - it looks really cool.
The new Art-Science Museum - a place which I haven't been inside, but would like to go in one day.
Then headed back down to the DNA bridge (the Helix) and took even more pictures.
Our last destination for the day was to Makan Sutra (the Glutton's Bay), for a late dinner. Makan Sutra's a hawker centre situated outdoors, and the food's absolutely gorgeous!! Check out their website: http://www.makansutra.com/index.php.
And then we were so full and so tired from running around the city. The minute Damo reached his hotel (and I reached home), we crashed.
The second half of Damo's trip would be to Chinatown and Little India, where we took a leisurely walk and ate even more awesome hawker food. Do stay tuned!
