Kuala Lumpur

Spent one of my weekends in Kuala Lumpur (KL) after coming back from Perth.  Went with my mum and met up with a friend/schoolmate.  It was my very first time to KL too, so it was kinda special.  Anyway we mostly did shopping and ate a lot of good food - and I did a mini-photoshoot for our hosts' children too :)

The first place we visited was KLCC - a major shopping centre in KL itself.  This place is located very near the Petronas Twin Towers, formerly the tallest buildings in the world.

There was a fountain show on the second floor of the shopping complex.  This place was actually a skypark where we could catch views of the city, and also part of the twin towers, and there was a lake that went through the whole length of the skypark.  As it was raining, I had to take pics of the fountain show from the foodcourt two floors above.  Doesn't matter - it worked out pretty well!

Each time the fountains changed, I'd be ready with my camera.  There wasn't a single soul out there; the rain was just too heavy!

People started streaming out slowly after the rain finally died down.  And many started taking pictures.  By then I had all the pictures I wanted and needed, so it was time to go to my next destination.

Had to pass through a concert hall next to KLCC, where the Malaysian Symphony Orchestra often performed.  They apparently have concert packages going on, and one of them included all 9 Beethoven symphonies!  Check out the impressive Beethoven poster on the bottom left hand corner of the pics!  I was super tempted, but realised I only had 2 days left...ah well!

We intended to go up to the Skybridge of the Petronas twin towers...but the tickets were all sold out!  Apparently the tickets were really, really popular and some people would queue really early for them.

But since we couldn't get tickets, we had no choice but to take pics of the twin towers from ground level.  The twin towers were really, really impressive against the gloomy sky, and I was awed mainly by their height.  The towers were 452 metres (88 storeys) high, and the facade designed based on motifs found in Islamic art.   The twin towers were the tallest buildings in the world for about 6 years before the famous Taipei 101 was finally completed.

I bet the twin towers look really beautiful at night too...especially with the fountains and KLCC being lit up.

The twin towers literally dwarf the other skyscrapers in the background!

Close up of one of the towers.  The steel and glass facade's really impressive!

After leaving KLCC, we decided to go for dinner, but got caught in a MASSIVE traffic jam.  According to my friend, traffic jams were very common.  It was really congested that night as people were rushing to a soccer match outside the city.  We were stuck for more than an hour before finally managing to head to a small coffee shop for claypot rice.  Food in Malaysia is really delicious.  And each shop will have its own specialties!

The next day, we went to a high-end shopping centre - the Gardens.  Caught a movie - Rise of the Guardians (2012) and it was really awesome!  After that it was lunch at Mid-Valley (just next to the Gardens) and then a bit of walking around here and there.

I really like the interior design of this mall.  And the cinema was extremely comfy too!

Christmas decorations were - of course - up by then.  And they were so gorgeous!

History kinda repeated itself - my aunt was trapped in a massive traffic jam and arrived 2 hours late for our dinner!  We weren't too fussed though.  After dinner we went for a short walk outside the shopping centre and caught a mini fountain show.  It was drizzling then, but fortunately there was a shelter.  Took pictures of the fountains in all their different colours!

Back to Singapore the next day!  Couldn't resist take pics of the international airport!  Anyway the airport was colossal, and we had to take a skytrain from the departure terminal to the plane.  And after that, we still had to work some more to get to our departure lounge.

Here are three souvenirs from KL - a coin purse and two phone pouches (one with a black-and-white cat and another with a brown-and-cream cat)!  I bought the phone pouches because I was reminded of Aggie the college cat!  The Batman mask and the sweet smile, especially!  I should pay a visit soon...maybe after my timetable comes out!

And that's it for KL!  I'd like to go back again someday.  And of course I'd like to go back to Ipoh to visit more places and take more pictures!

Moving back to some more Singapore snapshots...I was outside Ion Orchard one day and figured that I haven't taken pics of these sculptures for a while!  Designed by a Swiss sculptor, these colourful figurines depict different personalities in Ion Orchard - shoppers, working people, commuters and so on.  These sculptures were really, really popular too, and people would flock to take pics of them.

From this angle, this guy here looks like he's pointing towards the bush!

My favourite sculpture is the Newspaper Man.  He is oblivious to his surroundings - he reads his newspapers quietly and doesn't care about his peers.  But he's a good poser!

There's also a female with a shopping bag.  Someone actually put teddy bears on top of her shopping bag as props!

Taking the pics from a low angle creates pretty interesting effects...

My favourite shot of the day - the newspaper guy reading his newspapers while the others appear to walk away from him.

Few more DAYS before I head back to Perth - gotta come up with a list of stuff to do before leaving!  Gosh I really, really am pressed for time!

Meanwhile - more Singapore-based posts will be up!  Stay tuned!
