Tulipmania!

When I went back to Singapore for a short break during the Easter weekend, I had a chance to pop by at Gardens by the Bay for the annual Tulipmania! This was my first time going to Tulipmania - previously I'd go to the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest as a combined trip because I had free tickets (more to that soon!).

Anyway - Tulipmania was held in the Flower Dome, and the temperatures within the venue were kept low, with the roof shades drawn to make sure the tulips don't fry in the hot sun.

The Dutch-themed event had lots of beautiful props, including clogs, Dutch architecture, windmills and so on, amongst the beautiful tulips. Here are two chairs with clogs hung on the back...

And makeshift buildings that are typically seen in Holland...the place was designed such that the tulips were right in front of the "buildings", making it seem as if people were living in front of tulip fields...

There was also an area where hyacinths were planted in wheelbarrows, interspersed amongst other hyacinths and tulips. Unfortunately the area was closed so I couldn't go in to have a closer look. But I brought my zoom lens (70-300mm) so I still managed to take decent pictures!

Another highlight of the event - these spirals. They really accentuated the tulip fields, and added a really interesting touch to the "buildings", windmills and all.

Ah yes - I should feature these adorable windmills too!

More Dutch props on a beautiful blue and white table-cloth, not too far from the main tulip field. This featured pink and yellow hyacinths planted strategically in clogs, plus some other farming equipment and some dried wheat.

Spotted more of these clogs along the way, with hyacinths. These were hung up on a wall full of climbing plants...

At the entrance, there was a small replica of how a typical Dutch town looked like. The props are so adorable! Tulipmania is actually sponsored by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines - and so there was also a model of the KLM aircraft on this replica.

Now on to the fun and colourful part - the tulips! I spent A LOT of time trying to take pics of the tulips...simply because they were so colourful, and I haven't actually seen proper tulip festivals since I left Melbourne in 2011. I don't go to the Tesselaar Tulip Festivals anymore - simply because I can't. But nowadays I go for the Kings Park Wildflower Festivals - and am looking forward to this September's festival!

Anyway that aside...here're the pics I took of the beautiful tulips! They still look really fresh! Blueish-purple hyacinths were also planted alongside some of the tulips, to provide some balance to the colours.

And here are some close-up pics of the tulips! There were LOTS of yellow tulips! Another common colour was pink - and one part of the tulip field was covered with tulips of varying shades of pink...

These maroon tulips fascinated me the most - I've actually not seen these before! I recalled seeing white, pink, red, yellow and purple during the Tesselaar Tulip Festivals I attended...but not maroon!

Pink tulip area - some of the tulips were fully open, while others were still closed.

Posted a pic of these hyacinths online and my friend commented that she loved hyacinths a lot! I actually love this colour contrast here - purplish-blue hyacinths interspersed amongst yellow hyacinths. Apart from these two colours, there were also creamy orange hyacinths and white hyacinths.

Some "extras" taken just before I left - including pumpkins and roses! Speaking of roses, I think there'll be quite a lot of roses blooming pretty soon, here in Australia! I can't wait!

And that's it for Tulipmania! I hope to go for another one again, if I can time my trips back to Singapore strategically...it was really enjoyable!
