St Mary's Cathedral

Went to St Mary's cathedral a few weeks ago with one of my friends from Melbourne - Jill, who's also here for a year in Perth! It's been awesome catching up with her and I feel less lonely :)

St Mary's cathedral is a Catholic cathedral situated in East Perth - at the end of Murray Street and on the top of a small hill in Victoria Square. In fact, it can be seen from pretty far away, when walking up Murray Street! I went to Murray Street 1 week after this trip to St Mary's cathedral, to do a shoot entirely in black-and-white - and I'll post those pictures soon.

But for now - St Mary's cathedral. It has been constructed in 3 main phases - one in 1865, one in the 1930s and the last one in 1999, and the final project unveiled in 2009.

It's pretty obvious where the older projects started and ended...especially with the differences in design and texture of the building.

The front was also upgraded and expanded to provide more space, and this included a glass window with decorated grilles, to allow light to enter from the main entrance.

Oh, and on that day itself, there was a wedding within the cathedral, hence the limo parked outside. Best part about the limo - its car plate. LAVISH3. Of course I took a picture! To be more specific - an Italian wedding.

We went in halfway through the wedding ceremony, and the part which we caught were mostly about prayers, and religious procedures.

In between prayers, the bride and groom had small conversations with each other, and were often seen holding hands and giving each other support.

The ceremony also included signing, to make the marriage official.

And when the ceremony ended, I managed to snap a few shots of them walking down the aisle. They were visibly relieved and happy that everything went well.

Some more candid shots of the bride and groom interacting with their friends and loved ones, before I went back in to the cathedral.

And here is the inside of the cathedral - all emptied out after the wedding! Pretty majestic huh? The aisle didn't seem as long as it should be, though, and in fact, I noticed the sides were almost as long as the aisle itself, after the expansion works.

Mass photography session with the couple outside.

Went to Perth Mint to look around before heading towards St George's Terrace...

where there were people frolicking and chilling out in the sunshine. :)

And of course - who could ever miss the iconic Bell Tower? I've got so many shots of it already!

Headed back to the station to catch a train, and along the way...

I managed to snap pictures of the sunset just as the train was crossing the river! Whenever I head to the city, the train goes through the Kwinana Highway, which is constructed partially across the river.

That's it for now, and thanks lots for viewing!
