Fremantle Street Arts Festival Day 2

So here I am again - back with the second part of the Fremantle Street Arts Festival series! This time, I went with my friend, who wanted to experience the street arts fest for the first time.

Started off with the Pitt Family Circus, hailing from Tasmania. The Pitt Family Circus is a family of three. Their child (whom they call Wee Pitt) performs with them, and is usually seen in the final act.

So the show starts off with Mr and Mrs Pitt pretending to be squabbling siblings...and then it progresses to incorporate lots of acrobatic acts from both of them. Well - the "squabbling" includes "physical violence" anyway - the acrobatic acts! It's pretty funny to watch. Most of the initial stunts involved them trying to step on each other...literally! They ended up swinging each other around like crazy...

In the end the two of them ended up standing on top of each other! The best part was when Mrs Pitt supported Mr Pitt (usually Mr Pitt would be the one supporting her).

And then Mr Pitt tossed his wife aside to capture some of the limelight. But oh boy, she was pissed!

In the finale, they brought out their son - who's also a really good acrobat just like his parents!

Released a bunch of colourful floaty stuff that rained on all three of them, when they did this human tower. I wonder how the boy feels standing up there. I bet he must be really used to it already - with all the travelling, performances and so on. He's so independent! I saw him going off to buy a drink himself.

Dado (from the previous day) happened to be around too, so I decided to hang around to watch him :) He was funny as usual, and this time he had many more "participants" than he usually did.

One new thing that Dado did - make a "bagpipe" out of a plastic surgical glove and a mouthpiece. It actually made music! He looked really hilarious when he played music with his new makeshift instrument.

We had Joel Salom next. Joel brought his robot dog Erik, who entertained us with silly jokes (including dirty ones that most children probably didn't get!) as Joel prepared for his show. I think Joel had pre-recorded Erik's script and all Erik had to do was to entertain us while Joel moved him around with a remote. One thing about Erik - he wasn't covered properly with metal bits, so when his tail was turned towards me, I could see EVERYTHING. Joel actually made PRIVATE PARTS for Erik - as an attempt to make Erik more realistic. Seriously it was so amusing!

Erik was only given 10 minutes of "air time" before Joel shoved him back into his box. By then Joel was ready to begin his juggling trick - while letting his pants drop! He showed us how he managed to pull his pants back up while juggling bowling pins.

Seriously Joel is amazing at juggling! He had great control over the bowling pins...and he obviously knew how to show us some of his good moves! :) I ended up shooting so many pictures of his juggling!

The finale involved juggling fire torches - and this definitely kept us on edge for a while! Joel got a volunteer (from Zimbabwe!) to be his assistant. This volunteer had to toss the fire torches to him while he juggled.

And no matter how the volunteer tossed the torches to him, Joel managed to catch them all!

The fire torch juggling was definitely the most epic of all! Seriously I can't believe how talented Joel is. Of course, I won't be surprised if he actually practiced a lot!

We had a hilarous duo - Les Vitamines, hailing all the way from Quebec (Canada)! This duo mainly did acrobatic stunts and had a gym ball as part of their props. They did lots of cartwheels, jumping, and often ended up in skirmishes as they just couldn't decide what to do! But they were amazing.

Our last show for the day was by the Lords of Strut (Ireland). I actually saw them performing on Day 1, but didn't catch their entire performance. This time, I saw the whole performance!

Initially the two dudes were dressed like break dancers...so we thought all was going well with their stunts and all. As usual, there was a lot of slapstick comedy involved...and some jokes.

Underneath their "decent" exterior? Well - tight clothing of course! One wore blue and another wore pink. I guess it's all part of their act.

There was this part where one of them (the one wearing blue) pretended to have a quarrel with the other dude because he never got to go up the ladder to do a stunt. He then pretended to "rage quit", but fortunately the audience (us!) convinced him to go back to do his stunts!

There was also some running joke about the Lords of Strut being estranged from their biological father, and well...they made it all up of course! They picked out a random middle-aged man from the crowd and passed him off as their dad! The man actually played along, and ended up putting on a really awesome show for us. There were LOTS of exaggerated emotions involved.

Nevertheless, this duo performed really well, and for their final act, they did some really hilarious stuff (including facial expressions!).

The show ended off with one of the dudes standing on his counterpart's shoulders. And asked for donations of course! We gave them loads of donations...they were amazing!

So that's it for the Fremantle Street Arts Festival!

Mid-semester holidays are coming up again, and ANZAC Day's next Thursday! I might head to Kings Park for a look on ANZAC Day. I remembered going to the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne...now I should go to the Perth equivalent!
